Episode 53
53. Things that are second nature are more difficult to teach.
Things that are second nature are more difficult to teach. Let's Simplify processes and systems from the start!
We all know we need processes and systems, and we need to create a turn-key operation to grow and be efficient. The problem is we don't always get our systems in place at the beginning. Instead, we wait until we are so far down the track it's hard to recall the steps exactly.
By taking notes on what we do from the beginning, even as we are learning or creating our system, we can avoid problems in the future. It is easier to teach others and identify possible improvements for efficiency.
Think of it as learning how to drive a stick shift or hooking up a trailer to a truck the first time. It's confusing. You get frustrated figuring out all the steps and what order to do them. You are overwhelmed. Once you get it and it becomes second nature, it seems too simple to forget how confusing it was in the beginning.
Write down the steps from the beginning as you learn, adjust as you go, or create versions, so you have a process when you teach a new employee or team member. Get feedback as refine as you go. If you wait until it is second nature, you will forget how frustrating it was for you at the beginning and lose precious time and clarity.
Until next time, keep it simple, be at ease with yourself, trust your intuition with light the way.
